r. Lau is a Research Scientist and Director, BC Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Network with BC Mental Health and Addiction Services, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, where he is co-ordinating a series of projects to disseminate CBT across the province of BC. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UBC, a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and Chair-Elect for the Clinical Section of the Canadian Psychological Association. Prior to coming to BC in October 2006, he was Deputy Head of the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Unit, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Clarke Site, Toronto, ON, and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. The CBT Unit at the Clarke is one of the few centres in Canada devoted solely to providing treatment and training in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and CBT. Dr. Lau’s research interests include investigating the mechanisms underlying the efficacy of MBCT, the development and validation of the Toronto Mindfulness Scale, and evaluating effective methods of CBT dissemination. Dr. Lau has presented over 60 workshops in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) across Canada, the United States and in the United Kingdom including 19 workshops with one of MBCT’s founders, Dr. Zindel Segal. He was recently awarded the Scientist-Practitioner Award from the British Columbia Psychological Association.
